Library Loot

Library Loot hosted by Eva and Marg
asks us to list what we brought home from
the library this week.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

Here is to hoping it's better written.

The Piano Teacher by Janice YK Lee
In 1942, Will Truesdale falls headlong into a passionate relationship with Trudy Liang, a beautiful Eurasian socialite. But their love affair is soon threatened by the invasion of the Japanese, with terrible consequences for both of them.. Ten years later, Claire Pendleton comes to Hong Kong and is hired by the wealthy Chen family as their daughter’s piano teacher. A provincial English newlywed, Claire is seduced by the colony’s heady social life. She soon begins an affair, only to discover that her lover’s enigmatic demeanor hides a devastating past.

I picked up the Host to see how it's written and if any good, and the Piano Teacher because I fell for the beautiful cover. I could not resist.

  2. I got Host mainly because of all the hoopla about Meyer & her Twilight series but I have yet to read it since I was actually disappointed by Twilight and I'm afraid to not like this one either. I am hoping to be wrong.

  3. Hi Amy,
I saw that they had it in English so had to get it today. I do wonder by it since..well don't get me started on Twilight.

    Lilly,
You did the same thing I did then. It was teh hype that made me do it. But I too was disappointed by twilight, the first was cute and cheesy so didn't care if badly written. Then they got boring, ad still badly written.
    We'll see about this one

  4. I have The Host sitting on my book shelf. Perhaps your review will force to pick it up. The Piano Teacher is already on my tbr list!

  5. I've had the Piano Teacher on my tbr list for a long time now. I accidently got The Music Teacher from the library instead so I'm still waiting on the Lee book. I've only heard good things so I think we'll enjoy it.

  6. Hope you enjoy The Host. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. :)

  7. I have just bought the Host and I can't wait to read it.

  8. Out of the two, I'd probably choose the second one. I've been avoiding Stephenie Meyer just on principle ;). Principle of staying away from the latest "hot" thing. However, I'll be interested to see what you think of The Host anyway. :)

  9. Linda,
Perhaps, I sure I will like it somewhat then. The piano teacher sure sounds good, I am very curious about it.

    Sandra,
I am sure I have heard about it but my mind can't put the pieces together. Must be from my early blogging days. And yes I am sure we'll both enjoy it, as soon as you get it too

    Anna,
Really? Hm...that does sounds promising :)

    Scrap girl,
Perhaps you will beat me too it so that i can read your review first.

    Justreading,
I know, but I caved, just like with Twilight. I need to know what the fuss is about

  12. I vowed that I would read The Host this summer. You have reminded me. Thanks.

  13. The Host never tempted me to buy it, I do not know what it is that makes me want to leave it on the shelf. I really dont know. So, I am looking forward to your thoughts on it to see what you think!! You know how much I enjoy your reviews!
And I have never heard or saw The Piano Teacher book... will have to look into! I hope you have a wonderful day!

  15. I've been curious about The Host but I haven't read it yet.

    Enjoy your reads!

  16. I have read both of these books!

I loved The Host, and thought it was a much better book than any of the Twilight books. Once you get past the initial set up it was a very enjoyable read.

I just read The Piano Teacher last week, and thought it was a good read too.

  17. I haven't read "the host" but I've heard from others that the writing isn't that good. Stephenie Meyer is lucky to have all that marketing; They're certainly pushing her product. Last vampire book I read was "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Excellent read.

  18. I liked Twilight, but I LOVED The Host. Well, I thought the first 100 pages were a bit... only okay, but after that... wow!

  19. Hi Blodeuedd,
I need to make a big round so I'll cut right to the chase and say I've given you some award love:

I've given you an award(s) click ~here~ to receive it.

  20. Do you like the Twilight series? I wonder by your comment about not getting you strated on Twilight if you liked it or not. I don't know if you have said or not, with so many people liking it. I'm on the other side of the fence. It really didn't do anything for me :). I haven't even cared to pick up New Moon :(.

  21. Samantha,
yes such a great cover. I saw that there was another cover too but not as lovely and might bot have made me pick it up.

    Staci,
Good to hear, maybe I will actually like the Host then.

    Wisteria,
Good to be reminded now and again. i have meant to read it a while but then I just forgot about it

    Cecile,
It would not have tempted me either, it sounds weird, but I need to know what happens and what how it's written. So when I saw it at the library of course I picked it up

  22. Michelle,
I will let you know what i think.

    Donna,
I hope I will enjoy it somewhat cos it was so big, and I do feel I have to finish it even if it sucks.

    Hi Marg,
Sure good to hear that is was better than Twilight. That does makes me want to read it. And yay on hearing that the Piano Teacher is good too, it just looks good and I want to like it.

    Maija,
I will sure know then to make it past the first 100 pages so i can get to the good bit. I tend to give up on books fast you see

  23. JR;
Not good, sighs, Twilight was sure badly written, I can't believe that people now thinks that it might be standard. I want to give them a good book so they can see what a great written book looks like. And yes she has a marketing genius.
    Loved the Kostova book!

Thank you so much Leontine!! *hugs*

  24. Hi Amy,
Well, ok the first book was cute and cheesy, if really badly written. You know a 14 year old writing in her journal (and some stolen things in there for sure).
The next one had me wondering where Edward was and I was bored, the third bored me still. The 4th was freaky, kind of liked that. But bad ending that suddenly just came. Oh and still poorly written.

I liked the cuteness of the first, but not a fav of mine

  26. Dar,
I am sure curious myself, I do not know what I will think.
As for the Piano teacher, that one sure sounds good, and I hope it is

  27. I'm not keen on Stephanie Meyer, but I'm very curious about The Piano Teacher. Enjoy!

  28. Flerurfisher,
I know where you are coming from, cos me neither, but gotta try. And Piano Teacher sure sounds nice

  30. Hi Blodeuedd!

I just got The Host in the mail, I'll already read it once, so good, but totally not like Twilight Saga!

Don't know anything about The Piano Teacher, so can't wait to hear your thoughts.

  31. marie,
I sure does, and I do hope it is.

    Dottie,
Really, good, ok, then I will look forward to reading it. But we will see how I liked it, it all depends on he writing and on what happens

  32. Can't wait for your thoughts on these. I enjoyed The Host more than the Twilight books, though it could have been shorter.
